SWAMI TIME 2010.....BOGGITY BOGGITY BOGGITY...LET'S GO RACING BOYS!!!!
2010 has kicked off! The 10th season (9th full season) is underway now that we have gotten the auction in the books and we have our 1st winner of the year. S+S Racing rode the RCR power of Kevin Harvick to the Bud Shoot out win. Of course, a lot of us believe that there could’ve been a different story if the caution had not come out on the last lap. Still, a good feeling for Stephen since his 2009 campaign was one to forget.
What a quick auction! Amazing what you can do when the majority of the group isn’t pounding the suds. Thanks to Milton’s brother for stepping in and covering for Bill and the 24 inches for Ingrid. Even with Bill not there, we were able to get the auction done in about an hour (Brian was about 15 minutes late). First on the table was Jimmie Johnson, and he went for high dollar ($64). I believe that ties the highest amount a driver has ever gone (Tony Stewart went for that in Debbie Martin’s 1st year in the league….of course, Debbie came in thinking you won if your driver won the race…and she was wearing home depot colors). From there the drivers maintained their high $ (Johnson, Gordon, Stewart going over 60 and Hamlin and Mark Martin going over 50).
Some quick notes from the auction:
- Joey Logano goes for less money this year than he did last $11 to the SBB. SBB are hoping Denny’s knee is not an issue and he’s ready to continue his hot streak that ended the 2009 year. Will Kasey Kahne’s impending free agency distract him from his new Ford car? SBB will throw their hopes into Joey Logano’s development (sophomore slump or sensation)?
- S+S go $11 for Boris Said who have the inside information that he’s driving the whole season. Not sure that’s a good thing. Gordo and Harvick will have to team up with hot results because Boris and Regan Smith won’t help much on the intermediates and short tracks.
- Ol Farts throw $34 at Dale Jr. hoping for the bounce back. Yet, they finish off their lineup with no other driver over $25 and could be going the deep route rather than the stud. They could be a force if Jr. bounces back. I have this squad as a contender for the crown.
- Lil T (our defending champ) are hoping there’s one more year in old man Martin’s belt. Their season lies in the hands of Marcos Ambrose and his continued rise up the charts. Lil T will be there in the end of the season with a shot at defending the crown (although I don’t have them as a favorite).
- Nascar has Hot Chix are hoping the Kyle Busch and Ryan Newman can provide a strong duo. McMurray is the wild card. If he can find the success he had with Ganassi back in the day, then they are a team that could surprise. But don’t forget Truex Jr. from last year. DEI-Ganassi threw all their wealth toward Juan Pablo and left that #1 car with crap.
- Checkered Flag Racing comes out of the auction as the big winners. They were able hold back and be the last team with a stud (#1) driver. In doing so they were able to pull in both Kurt Busch and Matt Kenseth at $69 totaled. If the new Ford engines are what they are supposed to be, then this team is the team to beat early on. Having David Ragan as a #4 is about as good as it gets according to this league’s rules.
- Anybody but Jeff, see S+S racing. 2 studs, 2 duds. The new Ford Engine and performance by Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle will give them shots at wins all year long. But Paul Menard and Aric Almirola will find ways to break Larry’s heart repeatedly. I can already here the Ee-orye comments heading to the Salem Middle bus stop.
- Note to Cynthia, you may want to plan on one year not having your racer. One of these years you can really throw a crimp into someone’s racing team by dumping $60 plus Tony Stewart onto another who is just trying to run you up. Tony will do fine as an ace. Jeff Burton was HOT down the stretch once he got his new crew chief. Now Bobby Labonte and Elliott Sadler will leave the Barber’s lacking (to say it nicely).
WINS FOR THE 2010 SEASON
1.CHECKERED FLAG RACING 7 WINS
2.OL FARTS 6 WINS
3.SOGGY BOTTOM BOYS 5 WINS
4.LIL T RACING 5 WINS
5.24 INCHES FOR INGRID 4 WINS
6.NASCAR HAS HOT CHICKS 3 WINS
7.S+S RACING 2 WINS
8.ANYBODY BUT JEFF 2 WINS
9.BALL AND CHAIN 2 WINS
THE CHASE FOR THE MUG RESULTS
LEAGUE CHAMPION- SOGGY BOTTOM BOYS- Sorry boys and girls….Denny is going to make his knee surgery in December a joyous one.
RUNNER-UP- CHECKERED FLAG RACING- The best “team” of the year will frustrate Milton during the fall months as Kenseth fades like the leaves.
3rd PLACE- OL FARTS- Coach will hit the league with a deep lineup. But no week in and week out top 5 driver will kill their title efforts.
4TH PLACE- 24 INCHES FOR INGRID- Jimmie Johnson is Mr. Money in the Bank. The rest of this team will be like rolling pennies come the Chase.
5TH PLACE- LIL T RACING- The defending champ may not get the same Mark Martin in this season’s chase like he got in last. And Brian Vickers may be best served to not make the chase, because he drove like a start-and-park last year when he did make the chase.
